Psychological methods? Nah man, prayer.
A bit of a context here. My cousin asked me about my university and the things i'm studying and i gave him an example of another University of Psychology that's more into the soul and god thing. I don't study things like these at my uni. My aunt got really offended by this and she started saying things that made little to no sense.
Her : You should be studying the soul too. It's a very important aspect of psychology.
Me : Well, no. I did study "The history of Psychology" and i learned about all the people that believed in a soul and we went through every philosopher .. from the egyptians, greeks to up-to-date psychology. I think that is enough. The soul has nothing to do with science. Psychology needs to get as far away as possible from metaphysics. The soul is something that belongs to religion and philosophy.
Her : But the soul is something scientific too. You, as a psychologist, will deal with religious people, with people that believe in a soul.
Me : (facepalming at this moment) I don't want to get into psychotherapy. Even if i did.. it wouldn't matter. Psychologists don't cure people's mental disease with prayer. They use psychological methods that had been proven to work.
Her : But prayer works for many people.
Me : Yea, auto-suggestion, introspective methods etc it's all there is.
Her : We clearly have different beliefs. I think the soul should be studied there and use more of the religious methods to cure people. They feel more secure when they have faith in god and know that prayer and spirituality are being involved in their treatment. It should work even better.
